CNRS Innovation is the subsidiary through which the CNRS carries research results from the laboratory into use — managing intellectual property and licensing, funding the maturation of promising results, and supporting the start-ups that grow out of them.
For software like IChem, that support is what closes the gap between a method that works in a paper and a program that runs reliably on someone else's machine: packaging, documentation, testing and distribution are real work, and rarely funded by the grants that produced the science.
